Forecast Meteorologist | AccuWeather : Wichita, KS | June 2015 – Present

AccuWeather Enterprise Solutions, Inc., an AccuWeather company, specializes in weather-risk management consulting and state-of-the-art weather forecasting and services to utility, transportation, manufacturing, educational and governmental clients throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. My job is to personally create and distribute forecast information to our various clients.

Forecaster | WBAA Radio : West Lafayette, IN | Feb 2013 – May 2015

My duties here include providing the local radio station with forecasts to be read on air. There are 3 updates a day required and sometimes more if there is inclement or severe weather. Usual updates involve an hour of going over current analysis plots and conditions in the listening area, followed by an analysis of numerical model data utilizing a top-down approach. Over the summer of 2014, I was working this as a paid position.

Weather Intern | WLFI-TV : West Lafayette, IN | Jan 2014 – May 2014

Worked with chief meteorologist Chad Evans on long range and winter forecasting methods. In addition, I utilized Weather Central’s Fusion graphics software to construct my own show from scratch.

Summer Student Office Associate | Purdue University | May 2013 – August 2013

Over the summer, Purdue University Residences brings in many conferences to stay in our vast network of resident halls. My job is to organize and prepare materials for an incoming conference, as well as to make sure the conference goes smoothly once they have arrived relying on good customer service skills. Being experienced in office functions, I am also a point of contact if any issues arise.

Weather Intern | WNDU-TV : South Bend, IN | May 2012 – August 2012

My main jobs were helping with forecasts and weather graphics. During severe weather events, I worked with NWS warning data and posted it directly to the station website and Facebook page. I also got experience on the green screen and updated climate data for the station via excel.

Call Center Intern | 1st Source Bank | May 2012 – August 2012

Responsibilities involved taking telephone calls for the bank to assist bank clients’ various issues with their accounts. Involved using problem solving skills, deciding quickly to solve an issue or raise it to the next level. The main traits needed for this job were customer empathy, problem solving, and computer navigation. I learned the job quickly and was always able to handle the call volume. Had 100% attendance record. Learned an immense amount about customer service here.
In addition to working here over the summer of 2011, Bank asked me to assist over the winter break in December of 2011. Demonstrates that I was a valued employee.

I have volunteered with the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and participated in a few Purdue hosted volunteer events. The experiences below are only my highlighted volunteer experiences. These experiences have greatly increased my skill in public speaking, education and management.

Meteorology Speaker | Kokomo High School | March 2015

A teacher reached out to the NWS Indy office who than contacted our department to see if there was any students interested in taking the event. On short notice, I and a couple of other students decided to participate in the event during a busy time in the semester. We talked to all of the science classes during the day and received great reviews for our talk at the end of the day. If you would like to see the recommendation that the teacher wrote, let me know!

Spring Fest Volunteer | Purdue University | April 2012, 2013, 2014

Spring Fest is an annual event showcasing the lighter side of higher education. This free event is a great opportunity for students of all ages to learn about animals, art, astronomy, and much more in two full days of hands-on activities. It’s part education, part entertainment, and all fun! I have volunteered at this event for the past 3 years now, teaching kids all about atmospheric science utilizing basic experiments.

Meteorology Speaker | Maconaquah Middle School | May 2014

A follower on our PUMA twitter page contacted us asking if a atmospheric science student would be willing to give a meteorology talk to his 8th grade students and I answered the call! I ended up speaking to all of his 8th grade classes at Maconaquah Middle School about a career in Meteorology which totaled around 200 students. I talked for the whole class period using a PowerPoint presentation I made and my enthusiasm for my field to keep students interested. I enjoyed the experience and would gladly participate in an opportunity like this again!

How-To Festival Speaker | St. Thomas Aquinas Church | January 2014

Being a member at this church and an atmospheric science major, I was asked to speak at our annual How-To Festival regarding “How-To Identify Clouds”. My talk was 45 minutes that highlighted how to properly identify the 3 major cloud groups (cirrus, cumulus, stratus). Being asked to volunteer here shows that other people recognize my skills in meteorology and my passion for outreach.

Purdue Winterization | Purdue University | November 2013, 2014

Winterization is a community service project in which students from Purdue University assist in preparing the yards and homes of the elderly and disabled in Tippecanoe County for winter. In the last two years, this has been a great way for me to meet new people while making a positive impact on our community.

Boiler Blast | Purdue University | April 2014

Boiler Blast is a one day, campus-wide event of community service in the spring. Student volunteers work on campus beautification or help out with spring chores for residents of West Lafayette. Here again, working to make a positive impact on the community.
